Leeds Playhouse
In my role at the Playhouse I look after outreach projects for older adults, and I support the day to day delivery of our core creative project for older people, Heydays. Through the outreach work last year we reached over 200 new individuals across the city, many of whom experience isolation or haven't participated in creative activities for some time. We ran sessions in care homes, cafes, pubs, community centres, markets, support centres, supermarkets and, of course, the theatre. I'm also a part of the work we do for refugees and asylum seekers, with a new Conversation Cafe every Thursday morning in the Playhouse cafe. I'm excited to continue this work in the new year, and see what new projects we can concoct together.
Red Ladder Theatre Company
I've taken up the part time role of Marketing Coordinator at Red Ladder Theatre Company this spring. I'm thrilled to join such a stalwart organisation for the next few months, supporting various shows and helping venues get the word out about them. Get yourself to http://www.redladder.co.uk/ for more gossip.
By Their Fruits (you will know them)
I have been tentatively working on a short book for some time. It draws from my own experience of spending time as a teenager in a religious setting that many ex-members now regard as a cult, or a destructive church at best. I'm treading a line between autobiographical writing, and fiction that draws from my experiences (although all fiction is autobiographical in some way, and much autobiography is fiction). I'm exploring routes to self-publish this year. I want to self-publish because this one is more of a passion project than it is "work", and much of my practice this far has been DIY, and I like that. I'll post some (draft) excerpts in coming months.
Pockets Theatre
We will of course be running various scratch events across the year, and at some point the company will have a bit of a facelift/rebrand. Not too much on that now, shhhh.
Usually the question that follows the title of this blog is "when will you get a real job?" - As you can see I seem to have a few, but I'm still open to discuss opportunities for later in the year, particularly in guest lecturing or supervision roles.
I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday season, and are well stocked up on coffee for the new year.
